Garmin Nuvi 350 Pocket Vehicle Navigator
Sep 3rd, 2007 by Brian
Was looking at Amazon the other day and found the Garmin Nuvi 350 pocket vehicle navigator. Looks like a neat package.
It comes included with the usual street maps, a points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs etc.
You simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nüvi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions.
It will announce the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road.
In addition, nüvi 350 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs.
The European version even includes a safety camera database containing the location of safety cameras for parts of Europe. Could do with one of these for New Zealand Too !
In the States you can avoid traffic jams with the addition of an optional FM TMC traffic receiver and traffic services. By adding these to your nüvi, you are notified of accidents or road construction ahead on your route. Simply touch the screen to view traffic details or recalculate your route to avoid traffic.
The device fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot.
And there is more. Its an MP3 player, audio book player , JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more
This one hasn’t made it to New Zealand yet but hopefully it will be here soon.

I was looking at getting a GPS for my dad this Christmas so that I’d no longer have to endure family trips from hell. You know the ones - car stacked to the brim, lost, dad refuses to ask directions and family bickering.
Ha ha.. this would be a great gift for a few guys I know! LOL… that way, they don’t ever have to actually “stop” and ask for directions! :)
gps is great my mum uses it to travel all over the country, before she had it she never used to go very far. definitely something worth having
Wow! They are getting more advanced all the time. This one has a GPS? It’s pretty good.
I can remember back 10 years ago when a GPS meant one of those handheld bricks with nothing more than a direction finder and your longitude/latitude. Still pretty cool, but nothing like that one.
cool device, but im planning on getting the GPS for my palm treo, since i prefer to have it all in one device :/
This is such a cool gadget! I know of some people who would really love to have this. My one guy friend is so poor in directions, he might just be happy having this.
yes, that would be a great gift for my husband
How much does this normally cost? It looks like a very useful and cool thing.
I plan on doing some cross country trips in the coming months and keep reminding myself I need to pick up one of these. Very useful device for those of us who indeed hate to ask for directions ;)
yes this is very useful Jack; my brother has one in his car and not only is it very functional it’s pretty stylish. It is really cool to see your car moving along the path and have it talk to you with a touchscreen. These are very handy indeed.
I bought one for my trip from LA to Vancouver, and I have to say it was the best thing I needed for the road trip.
I used to have one of these. It was pretty helpful until I lost it. I’m hoping it will pop up during the next move.
I saw an add for one in a magazine, it looked awesome. It looks far more sleek than a tom tom or the current garmin. Seems like you could even carry it with you outside of the vehicle. That would be a handy tool.
I wonder how much it costs?
These things help so much. I have no clue about direction and before i had one i use to get lost everywhere. As well as being late to nearly everything which i didn’t know the address well. Good to make you organised.

these things are very cool. i like the extra features but you can get a portable GPS for like $250 + maps. i dont see a reason to get a vehicle bound one, a portable one is just as good and even better, you can update it with your computer, take it camping, biking, switch cars, ect ect.
Price seems little bit higher for me.
Any thoughts on how well these work “off the grid,” like on mountain back roads?
I picked up a Garmin myself recently. This was on the list of the few that I was thinking about and I nixed it because of the price.
The lower end model works much better than TomTom, which is what I was using previously.
In the end, I just want to get from A to B, so the idea of portability wasn’t that important.
I recently got the Magellan pocket GPS and I am completely in love with it. I have a horrible sense of direction and so for me this saves tons of time because now I drive straight to my destination rather then roaming around hoping that I stumble on the address. Definitely worth the investment.
This is going to be a perfect xmas present for my son, but I think it’s too pricey. Anyone know where I can get this for cheaper price?
Wow, this is a very cool and techy gadget. This comes handy when you go backpacking into the wilds. :)
I have the Garmin 360. It is very similar and I can’t live without it. Very easy to use right out of the box. And it takes away the stress of getting lost.
that was an awesome gadget. atleast no one will get lost in their trails. but i think the prospect of 3D image guide wud be more interesting to look at.
I just got this, for everyday use, but also because I have an upcoming roadtrip planned across the USA for which this will be invaluable. So far, around my city, it has been well worth it. I’d recommend it. Cheers.
I got the nuvi 350 last year, and absolutely love it. There has been a few occasions where it has sent my the wrong direction on the street, because of the address, but it is to be expected. Overall it’s a great device that I would recommend to anyone looking for a GPS. My favorite feature is that the voice pronounces all of the streets names.
Great navigator. Wanna buy one for myself.Do you know where?
That’s device for real travelers.. Good choice!
Me too was looking at garmin nuvi as my next wishlist gadget =/ GPS is just something that we can’t live without. Haha. And I guess a Nuvi 200 is more than enough for me. There’s no need to get one with MP3 player.
I need to “get a Garmin” as the commercial says. It really would have came in handy when I got lost driving to the Panic! At the Disco concert because my sister printed out the wrong directions. I didn’t know the Garmin came with all those extra features though.
WoW! this is the great job make for best carreer
I’ll will Accept This…..on the Blog :
Stumbled you ! cheers
I recently bought a GPS (AMCOR 3900). It’s pretty nice and gets the job done. We used it on our last family vacation and it saved us from getting lost a number times. The past vacations were so stressful cause we didn’t know where were going. I like it but I want to get an even better one. Mine looses signal easily and doesnt have as many features as I would like. I want to get one that shows where all the closest gas stations are and which are the cheapest. Maybe a Tom Tom! -M
